I don’t know about you but I prefer dates over a box of large cheesy pizza or eating seafood and rice with my hands than fine dining. I find it more personal and rather comforting! I’d say fine dining can still be saved for those extra special occasions, you know. Speaking of extra special, I brought my brother and his partner in Bag O’ Shrimps, Kapitolyo last Sunday. After receiving the kind invitation to dine there, I instantly checked online for further information. I wanted to create posts this year that are particular to versatile dating spots. Bag O’ Shrimps didn’t disappoint!
The moment we got there, the ambiance was already so light and welcoming. Customers seemed to be enjoying themselves, engaged in conversations while happily peeling shrimps and cracking crabs. Our group got excited despite of a mishap with our car (my boyfriend accidentally left the key inside. I know! Maybe he was too excited to dive in to a bag of seafood, lol). I told my Kuya and Andy (his partner) to help themselves with their chosen seats. I like to think of them as my guests as I would be interviewing them in a while about the food hehe.
The place was compact and modish.
Mau and the staff handed us some bibs and gloves and placed a large white paper over our table. Woohooo! It’s time to get messy!
First batch of dishes were served. They were Fried Asparagus (P155), Crab Bomb Sticks (P185), Sweet Potato Fries (P115) and Fried Oyster (P165). My favorite was the.. well its actually hard to pick! Let me explain.
- If you find yourself challenged every time you eat greens, try the Fried Asparagus. It’s vegetable but feels like a treat with every crunch!
- I am not allowed to eat spicy food but I didn’t care & gave in to the Crab Bomb Sticks – my goshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh can you just imagine dynamite, crab sticks and cheese all rolled into one????
- The Fried oyster was so perfect when paired with dip. Glad they served us two sets of Aoli dip!
- My brother is on a strict gluten-free diet.. but he enjoyed and tried everything. Note: He rarely does this. The sweet fried potatoes on the other hand would definitely pass for a gluten-free diet. ✓
As for the main part, they served us 2 bags of their special Bag O’ Momma Shrimps (half a kilo for each bag P595/each bag), 1 bag of Clams in Lemon Pepper sauce and 1 bag of Crabs in Garlic Butter sauce.
The Bag O’ Momma Shrimps are their best seller. Its got a secret sauce with a combination of salty and sweet with a mild blend of spicy. It also has sausages and corn toppings which you can request to be shredded. The shrimps were so fresh we were effortless in peeling it. I am no seafood expert so I can’t exactly tell the type of shrimp served, but the size of the shrimp were large enough to be compared with Sugpo or Suahe. I also asked the staff and they said seafood are delivered fresh, daily which is a huge plus ++++
The Crabs that were served was juicy, delicate and the sauce was so good I placed it on my rice. At first we thought nah we didn’t need rice. But when Mau insisted – we got ourselves 1 rice each because why not! Not to worry bout cracking the crab as it is already cracked upon serving and they will also give you a special Crab Shell Cracker.
The Clams for me was one of the best, I can be bias though cause lemon butter sauce is my weakness! Clams were baked and are in great quality. Can’t stop munching on these till the end.
Kuya and Andy overall enjoyed the dining experience. They said it was unique and price was very affordable. Specially if you are going to buy the same proportion in the market. Price is almost the same! Here you get to enjoy the fantastic sauces and just wait to indulge in a deliciously messy experience. As for me, it was not totally messy. They are organized cause you’ve got the bibs, gloves, paper towels, buckets for the shrimp/clam/crab shells and a clean hand washing area. I was glad that they (Kuya & Andy) were impressed with the food, given they are both culinary professionals so that’s another deal breaker.
I just can’t wait for our next seafood experience!!!
