It was a few days before the Holy Week and unexpectedly, my boyfriend and I haven’t made up any plans for the long weekend. We were in a bit state of panic so I did a quick browse in Airbnb to search for some unique staycation ideas when I bumped into a Glamping offer posting by Bloc.
It has always been a dream of mine to try Glamping (Glamorous Camping) but I always get intimidated by the price range from the list of available Glamping options around the country. I guess Glamping doesn’t really come cheap. Given that the facilities that will be used are usually quality and durable ones as it houses airbeds, basic power sockets and all things that will make the experience convenient.
The BLOC Team is one of the glamping pioneer in the Philippines. Currently they have 3 sites. One is in Laguna, the other is in La Trinidad and one is in Sagada (very new). The one we opted for is in Cavinti, Laguna.
It is located on top of the Sierra Madre mountain hence the weather is very cool by day and gets very chilly at night. The road to the glamp site is very scenic. We passed by the popular Caliraya lake and there were a lot of panoramic views. A car is recommended to reach the site but there is also an option for commute.
Upon arriving, we were immediately greeted by cozy looking glamping tents, Bloc camp staff and the beautiful man-made lake. It felt very remote and relaxing. You’ll be connected to nature straightaway.
Before checking in, they have an outdoor lounge where you can rest and wait. I was greeted by Philipp, Owner and CEO of BLOC who was a very approachable and humble guy. When I mentioned my name and where I booked from (Airbnb) he said that they have prepared a special place for us. I got giddy! Thinking that the tent will be somewhere near lake-front.
After briefing, the Camp Captain led us to one of the center of attraction tents. It was the biggest tent on site, elevated and has a miniature porch with modern hammocks and outdoor dining. We thought that there might be some mistake. But he did confirm afterwards that the innovative tent was really reserved for us!!!
We really couldn’t believe our eyes. It was more than what we have expected. Inside the tent you can fully stand up. It has a misting fan, LED lights, bean bag corner with power sockets where you can chill and plug your gadgets and also an indoor dining. The bed is so comfy and if you already know me I’m a sucker for anything Panda so when i saw not just one but two Panda plushes, I really felt that I was at the right place and at the right time. Ha ha!
The sunset was very pretty but come night time, the glimmering moon reflects on the beautiful lake making it very dreamy and romantic. A bonfire is set up for the guests to mingle and roast marshmallows, s’mores, etc.
Overall, our first glamping experience is one that we would never forget. The view, facilities, warm welcome by the staff, delicious food prepared by the BLOC team were all perfect. The place is ideal for families with kids, pets, couples and group of friends in deep need to unwind and getaway from the metro. A different kind of bond and serenity may be surely found here.
We can’t wait to visit more BLOC Glamping Sites! By 2020, Philipp envisions to set up around 300 glamping sites all over the Philippines. I am very happy to hear this and excited to have Philippines as a glamping destination soon!
