It was a beautiful summer day back in April where the sun was glistening and the waves are gently calling when we were sent to the Subic Lighthouse Marina Resort to witness the highlights of the 2018 Commodore’s Cup Regatta.
Each year, the Subic Sailing Club attracts top sailors around the world for the annual Regatta as they exhibit, set and race at the yacht racing destination of the country, Subic Bay.
An honorable tribute
The week-long event was a tribute to the Philippine Maritime Heritage which the committee and the people around strongly believes that Filipinos can excel and be the best in the world when it comes to sailing. The event aimed to spread the passion of boating to the upcoming generation of Filipino Sailors.
To compliment the theme and tribute, a Balangay Exhibit and Cruise was provided as a one of a kind opportunity to feel the history and heritage of splendid Balangay boats which even came from various expeditions from the south and around Asia.
We were very lucky to experience the Balangay ride! You can really feel the tradition passed on through the years which has been cultivated and is still present through this majestic boats. It wasn’t that simple, as they purely use a skillset of studying the wind and waves to master the art of Balangay Boating. We highly salute these boatmen!
Nautical Feels
The Lighthouse Marina Resort is the official event venue of the regatta. They have set up a spectacular sailing village filled with activities such as Kayak Racing, Sailing Classes, Maritime Forums & Talks and even a zone for kids, making the event family friendly!
To celebrate its 11th year, several speakers were invited to share their knowledge in preserving our maritime heritage and at the same time to provide a competitive platform to help raise the standards of sailing within the country.
Scenic Venue
The lighthouse itself, I have already seen numerous times online and made me wanted to visit Subic soon that is why it was a surreal moment for me to be actually at said place, cause it was also my first time in Subic!
What sets the place apart is the confidence of the place when it comes to covering precious getaways and its sense of meticulous hospitality which feels like you never left the city! The stunning facilities specially the Lighthouse landmark, immediately makes you feel like you are in a different place and unique side of the country.
Rare Opportunity
This for me was one of the most interesting blog trips I have been to. The rare experience of feeling the camaraderie, tradition and passion for maritime & sailing is truly unforgettable. As quoted during the presscon “Sailing is not just for the rich, you dont have to own your own boat, you can express it in other ways such as being a crew or taking sport clinics.” Most of us also learned that Regatta is swiftly evolving yet Subic Sailing Club gives importance to the history of our Maritime Nation.
Very honored to have shared such highlights with these bloggers and PR team!
We all can’t wait for what’s in store for 2019! Do you know anyone who fancies Sailing? Or anyone who might be interested at staying at the beautiful Lighthouse Marina Resort?
